Quokka Sports - Around Alone

Now called the VELUX 5 OCEANS Race - it's the premier solo around the globe sailing race. It's held every four years and you better ante up some major brass to enter this quest. These world-class sailors push themselves and their boats to the absolute edge in the most extreme of weather conditions - all the while sending out daily email and video updates via satellite.

Storytelling was one of Quokka's strongest suits. I loved taking various media -- be it sound, video, words etc. -- and weaving them together into some sort of narrative. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it didn't.

I was on call twenty-four hours a day. No pit stops in the middle of the ocean.

A couple of the legs went on for forty days. It was tortuous - we never knew when our day might begin or end.

My wife started to introduce me as her "first husband."
